GIRLS U16: Latvia won second day in a row, Finland got the first W


Latvia got their second win of the tournament as they defeated Sweden 83:62 and Finland won against Estonia 66:50.

After a close first quarter (17:16), Latvia made a huge performance in the next two periods and went to last 10 minutes of the game leading with 25 points – 65:40. Sweden didn`t stand a chance against Latvians and finally lost by 21.


Three Latvian players scored in double figures -  Valerija Baranovska had 17, Luize Sila added 14 and Raina Tomasicka scored 12 points. Both Edessa Noyan and Saga Eklöf had 10 points for the Swedes.

In the second game of the day Finland took the early 19:7 lead after first quarter but Estonian girls answered back in the second and cut the deficit to 5 points going to the half-time break (36:31). Third quarter was a total disaster for the hosts – Finland made 10:0 streak and took 15-point lead. Estonians then started to push and closed the gap back to 8 points before last quarter.


Finns started the final period  with a streak as well (7:0) and Estonia was in a difficult position – chasing by 15 again and weren`t able to get close to the opponents.


Finlands head coach Ilkka Palviainen gave minutes to all 12 players and the score was divided quite evenly. Best scorers were Elina Aarnisalo with 10 and Juliana Haddad with 9 points. Grete Kruuk answered with 14 points from Estonia.
